Bestop Supertop
I purchased this vehicle in March of 1994. It was bone-stock when I bought it. It had a Bestop Supertop (that I have since changed). It was in good condition with only 59,000 miles on the odometer. Since then, the original owners have asked to buy it back.  However, I am unable to part with it. At the beginning of this project, I just wanted to have a nice looking Jeep with some big tires. I was just a dumb high school kid that did not know anything about gearing, lockers, or serious fourwheeling. I only had a few desires for the Jeep and none of them had to do with drivetrain modifications. It was all about looking good. Slowly but surely as I met people with more heavily built Jeeps that could go up hills that would leave me watching at the bottom, I started learning about what needed to be done in order to conquer the more difficult trails.
Ryan is "into" this Jeep

My basic philosophy for this project has been "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." My secondary philosophy has been "If it breaks, upgrade!!!!".

Ryans Jeep

I got stuck every now and then, but that was half the fun. About a year later, I added a 2.5 Explorer ProComp suspension system.

In the summer of 1994, I made my first additions. I installed 31X10.500 BF Goodrich Mud TA's on 15X8.5 SEC aluminum wheels. In addition, I also installed a pair of Smittybuilt nerf bars and a stereo. For the next two years or so I did light fourwheeling and mud.

Towards the end of 1996 I wanted to tackle more difficult trails and was beginning to understand what I needed to do to my Jeep to get there. In the summer of 1997, I installed 4.11 gears and lockers. Three months later, 33X12.50 tires and a 4-inch Trailmaster suspension system were bolted on. Now I could drive the trails I had seen in all the magazines.
