Jody & Angelle’s Jeep

1980 Jeep CJ-7 w/ 1988 Wrangler tub stretched on a shortened 1982 Jeep Scrambler frame

Evolution. That is the word that best describes my Jeep. Growing up around Jeeps in the mountains of Colorado, it’s not hard to imagine that I too would have a Jeep. The Jeep is referred to as "Our" Jeep when I want to buy something and "My" Jeep when it’s broken. Our Jeep has evolved over 6 years now. Beginning with the Jeeper’s quote "I have a big list of stuff that I want, but I’ll take it slow", our Jeep had the typical 4" lift and 33" Swampers installed. My wife and I attended our first off road trip with Sam and from then on, we were hooked. Well, I was hooked, my wife was cursed with trying to keep some control of me not spending every last dime! Our Jeep has grown, parts have changed, from one thing to another. Lists were made, promises like "it’s almost done" were ignored!

Beginning in 1992, we moved to Tulsa. I was able to convince my wife to trade her car for a 1980 Jeep CJ-7. We built it up with lift, tires, wheels. We (I), broke it, then came one piece axles, gears, and lockers. I then came across another 1980 Jeep CJ-7 with a 304. After taking everything off of one Jeep and installing it on the other, we sold the "little" Jeep. Since then, our Jeep has grown in all directions. In 1998 we stretched it 10" in a frame off restoration putting all of the pieces on a shortened 1982 Jeep Scrambler frame. Then with the extra weight, I finished the spring over. Now that we have a ride almost as good as our Suburban (no, our sub doesn’t ride bad either), the only thing left is to tear it apart again and re-do it.

Our Jeep works well on the trail and serves as my daily driver, getting 800-1000 miles/month. Being so close, ever so close, to finishing….. I can’t give enough thanks to my wife for being as patient as she has and to all the friends that have helped over the years. See you on the trail. -jpc
