David Nyman 1984 Jeep CJ-7 |
7 months later after a lot of hard work, cussing and calls to Rick to help me out the jeep is almost finished. Still needs a few things. I’d like to add a power brake booster and a roll cage. A winch and bumpers are on the list as well. Paint, well maybe someday.
The Ram jet was a good choice. A mashed throttle results in massive spin from both rear tires. The NV4500 has a 5.6 first gear combined with the 5:1 Atlas which has me shifting to second almost immediately after the jeep starts to roll forward.
The jeep will climb an obstacle with barely a hit of rpm change at idle. GM claims the engine will put out 250 lb ft of torque just above 1000 rpm and final torque of 400 ft lbs at 3500 rpm and I believe it. On the road in 2 wheel high, I’m shifting before the jeep has rolled much over 10 feet. With a crawl ratio of 144:1 and 38.5 x 14.5 Swampers on beadlocks, I couldn’t be happier. Thanks to Sam’s for all the help!
One last
picture of the jeep all finished.
Thanks to Sams!
